Though not much is given regarding his early career, Brandon played in the 2005 Quebec International Fee-Wee Hockey Tournament.

Right after his selection, the Chicago Blackhawks signed a three-year entry-level contract on October 4, 2011.

He also made history by being the first of the lowest-selected Chicago draft pick to make his NHL debut.

For this debut game, Brandon starred against the Dallas Stars. He was quickly reassigned to Saginaw five days later.

From October 17 to October 23, Saad was named CHL Player of the Week, then called captain for the remainder of the 2011-12 season. 

After the end of the OHL season, Saad then got back with the Chicago Blackhawks team and made his Stanley Cup playoff debut on April 19, 2012.

After the championship, Chicago traded Brandon to Columbus Blue Jackets with two others in exchange for Jeremy Morin, Marko Dano, Artem Anisimov, Corey Tropp, and the fourth-round draft pick in 2016.

Then on July 3, he signed a six-year contract extension with the Blues for $36 million. Likewise, that season he was selected to his first All-Star Game.
