Justin Peters | Personal Life 

On August 30, 1986, Justin Peters was born in Blyth, Ontario, Canada. He is the eldest child in the family and has two brothers: Anthony Peters and Alexandar Peters.

There hasn’t been much information about Justin’s parents. But it can be assumed that his parents were sports lovers, given that all their children are professional hockey players.

When Justin was four, his parents signed him up for hockey lessons, and that’s how he became a professional hockey player.

He grew up idolizing Patrick Roy and Colorado Avalance as his favorite team. He watched every NHL game and dreamt of playing in the NHL.

Apart from playing hockey, Peter loves playing golf and fishing. He also plays golf in Ainslee Fontaine Memorial Golf Tournament.

Junior Career

Justin Peters played Junior ice hockey for four seasons with St. Michael’s and Plymouth. He had a fantastic record of 88-70-16 in 189 careers in Ontario Hockey League (OHL) games.

He was ranked second OHL goaltender based on the wins with 30 victories and was even selected for the 2004 Champions Hockey League (CHL) Top Prospects Game. 

In the 2003 Under-17 Canada Games, he won a bronze medal with Team Ontario.

Professional Career

Caroline Hurricanes

Justin Peters started his professional career with the Caroline Hurricanes in 2004.

It was a dream come true for Justin, who had always dreamt of playing in the NHL, but it lasted for a while.

Finally, Justin was placed in the Hurricanes’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Albany River Rats.

Though Justin was drafted in the NHL entry draft, he started his professional career in 2006-07 with the Albany River Rats in American Hockey League (AHL).

It was a big disappointment for Justin, which could be why he couldn’t perform well in the league. To make it worse, Justin was demoted to East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) in 2007-08.

Later, he got promoted to River acts again for the 2008-09 season based on his performance. Furthermore, Justin was giving his best playing for the Albany River Rats.

But, after six years, Justin eventually returned to where he truly deserved it. In 2010, Justin was called by Caroline Hurricanes as a replacement for their injured player.

Finally, Justin made his awaited NHL debut with Caroline Hurricanes on February 6, 2010. His debut game was against the New York Islanders, where he showed a fantastic performance with 34 saves, thus, leading to a 3–1 victory.

Justin played for Caroline Hurricanes for eight seasons, and after his contract with Caroline ended, he thought of switching to a new team instead of renewing the contract.

Washington Capital

Peters signed a two-year contract with Washington Capital on July 1, 2015. He played 12 games for Washington Capital, out of which he won 3. He saved 259 times.

However, Justin thought of leaving the team before the contract ended.

Other teams

Justin signed another contract with Arizona Coyotes on July 1, 2016. Initially, he played with Tucson Roadrunner, the Coyotes’ AHL affiliate.

But, after one of the players, the Coyotes, was injured, Justin was called to play for the {NHL for three games. 

On February 1, 2017, Justin Peters and his teammate Justin Hache were dealt with by the Dallas Stars in exchange for Brendan Ranford and Branden Troock.

So, Peters signed another deal with Latvian club Dinamo Riga of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) side Kölner Haie of Germany.

He then moved to Czech Extraliga in 2018-19 to play for Bili Tygri Liberec and BK Mlada Boleslav.

He ended his professional career in 2021 after being hired by the Belleville Senators as a goaltending coach.

International Plays

2014 World Championship

Justin Peters was added as 21 st member of Canada’s Roster for the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.

He was one of the three goaltenders registered for the tournament. Being the third goaltender, Justin Peters did not play in the game.

2018 Winter Olympics

Justin Peters was added to Canadian National Hockey Team to represent Canada in the 2018 Winter Olympics held in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Canada qualified for the 2018 Winter Olympics based on the 2015 IIHF World ranking. Team Canada and Team Czech Republic had a tie game, and both proceeded toward the Quarterfinals.

Later, both countries got defeated in the semi-finals and had a bronze medal game where team Canada won. As a result, Team Canada brought home the Olympic bronze medal.

Justin Peters | Retirement

On February 5, 2021, the Belleville Senators offered Justin Peters the position of the goalie coach.

Peters was considering retirement, and the offer presented a perfect opportunity for him.

He stated that the COVID epidemic was a significant factor in his choice. Initially, he planned to retire after the 2020/21 season, but the games were postponed owing to the pandemic.

He believed his hockey career was in jeopardy and desired to pursue other interests. In addition, Peters realized his retirement was approaching and was always considering coaching.

Peters expressed his enthusiasm for his new job as a coach. He claims this is a fantastic opportunity to share his years of expertise and knowledge with the other players.

Peters is working under Troy Mann, who coached him during his playing days. Despite being a rookie coach, Peters says he is given every chance to make decisions, express his opinions, and feel like a full-fledged part of the coaching team.
