Margaret Smith Court is a former tennis player born on 16 July 1942. Born in Albury, New South Wales, Australia, Court is the youngest daughter of Smith and Catherine Beaufort.

The former tennis player picked up tennis when she was only eight. As a result, she went on to win her first singles title at the Australian Championships at the young age of 18.

Furthermore, she was the first Australian woman to win a Grand Slam abroad after winning the French and US Championships in 1962.

She boasts a resounding 24 women’s singles major titles, 19 major women’s doubles, and 21 major mixed doubles titles.

Additionally, the International Tennis Hall of Fame inducted the tennis superstar into the Hall of Fame in 1979.

Following her retirement in 1977, Court became a Christian minister in 1991 and later founded the Margaret Court Ministries.

Who Is Margaret Court’s Family? Husband and Children

Court is married to Barrymore Court, aka Barry Court. The duo tied the knot on October 28, 1967, and share four children.

Barrymore Court is the son of the late Sir Charles Walter Michael Court, who was a Western Australian politician and the 21st Premier of Western Australia.

Barry, born on 23rd March 1941, is the second child of the late politician and his first wife Rita Steffanoni.

His younger brother, Richard, also served as the 26th Premier from 1993 to 2001.

Before marrying Margaret, Barry was the president of the Pastoralists’ and Graziers’ Association.

Following in his family’s footsteps, the father of four served as the President of the Liberal Party of Western Australia from 2008 to 2011.

The loving couple has four children: Daniel, Marika, Teresa, and Lisa. There are no public records of their children, and little is known about what they do.

The children voiced their concern with the way Tennis Australia had been treating their mother in 2019. However, no further information is available on the former tennis star’s children.

Margaret’s Supportive Family: A True Blessing

Margaret Court’s family has been a true blessing for the former superstar amidst all the controversy about same-sex marriage in Australia.

The Christian minister received plenty of backlash for her very conservative views on same-sex marriage and transgender people.

Following her remarks, Billie Jean King, a former competitor of Court, urged for the famed tennis player’s name to be taken off the Australian Open Arena.

King, who is also a long-term friend and an openly gay woman, insisted that it was inappropriate and that if she were playing, she would not play in that arena.

The loving husband came to her support, ridiculing the thought of renaming the arena.

He further urged King to check facts, denying claims that the former tennis star made any horrendous remarks about the LGBTQIA+ community.

Her children expressed their disappointment as well and claimed that they were disappointed by the Tennis Association’s position in the saga.

The association invited the Grand Slam winner to Melbourne Park to celebrate the 50 years of her winning the 1970 Grand Slam.

However, the association tried to distance itself from his conservative views on same-sex marriage.

In response, the children denounced the association and insisted that as a Christian minister, their mother was bound to Biblical principles.

They further argued that her current lifestyle should not impact what she achieved for the nation.

The family maintains that they have nothing against homosexuals; however, they firmly believe that they should not be allowed to marry.

The former athlete spends her life with her family and at her church, Victory Life Centre.
