MarShon Scitif Brooks, better known as simply MarShon Brooks, was born on January 26, 1989, in Long Branch, New Jersey, to parents Darlyn Brooks (mother) and Freddie Woods (father).

As for his siblings, MarShon has a sister named Naya Brooks. When MarShon was six years old, his family moved to Tucker, Georgia.

However, he used to come back to New Jersey each summer to stay with his grandmother and attend summer camp at Monmouth University.

MarShon Brook | College Career

MarShon Brooks played college basketball in the Big East Conference for the Providence Friars. However, Brooks had minimal time in the court during his freshman and sophomore years ( 2007 and 2008).

Not to mention, Brooks was also listed as the No.125 shooting guard and the No.521 player in the Nation in 2007.

In the collegiate basketball team Providence Friars, Brooks became a major contributor in his junior year.

He averaged 14.2 points a game and shot 46.7% of the time. Brooks impressively posted 20 or more points in several games.

Likewise, he also averaged a 24-point and 5 steals in a game against Vermont in 2009, during his junior year.

Further, Brooks recorded 25 points and five rebounds on January 23, 2010, when playing against South Florida.

In his senior year, Brooks averaged 24.6 points per game, first in the Big East. Notably, he also came second in Division I scoring.

Not to mention, he was also on the 30- player national midseason watchlist and a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award in 2011.

Later years in the Providence

Brooks played phenomenally in the 2011 season. He tied with the record held by Marvin Barnes when playing against Notre Dame.

He scored 52 points in that game and broke the Big East record of 48 points in a game. It was also Brooks’s second 40 point game of the season.

He scored 43 in the match against Georgetown in February of the same season. MarShon played well the entire season.

Further, he scored 28 points in a regular season-ending win over Rutgers, which made his total of 468 points on the Big East regular season.

That score broke the previous single-season conference mark of 462 points set by Connecticut’s Donyell Marshall in 1994.

Later, Brooks finished college with a total of 1629 points, ninth all-time for Providence.

On March 28, he was named the third-team Associated Press All-American. Likewise, Fox Sports also picked him for the fourth-team All-America.

Further, MarShon left Providence college even though he had two months left in his senior year to prepare for the 2011 NBA Draft.

He left his school 2 classes short of obtaining his degree. However, because of the 2011 NBA Lockout, he took time to complete his degree and focus on the Friar’s men basketball team.

New Jersey & Brooklyn Nets

The Boston Celtics drafted MarShon Brooks with their 25th pick in the 2011 NBA draft.

But he was immediately traded to the New Jersey Nets for their 27th overall pick for the draft and a second-round pick in the 2014 NBA draft.

Brooks was selected to play in the 2012 BBVA Rising Stars Challenge. He got drafted by Team Chuck. In 2012, Brooks finished 10th in the Rookie of the Year voting.

The winner was Kyrie Irving from the Cleaveland Cavaliers. However, he was named the NBA-All-Rookie Second Team.

In his 56 games, Brookes averaged 12.6 points(3rd among the rookies), 3.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 0.93 steals.

After an ankle injury, Brooks missed two matches at the beginning of the 2012-13 season. Brooks was given less time in the court. Later, MarShon admitted to having low confidence.

When a new coach came to the team and gave Brooks more time on the court, he became more confident and eventually started performing better in the matches.

In April 2013, MarShon replaced Joe Johnson against the Cleveland Cavaliers and scored a career-high of 27 points on 12-of-16 shooting in 113-95 wins.

Boston Celtics 

 On July 12, 2013, the Boston Celtics traded MarShon along with Keith Bogans, Kris Humphries, Grace Wallace, Kris Joseph, and the other three first-round picks blockbusters deal.

This sent Boston stars Kevin Garner, Paul Peirce, Jason Terry, and the rookie prospect D.J White to the nets.

Likewise, MarShon and Kris were the two players traded to the same team, i.e., the Boston Celtics first drafted them.

Further, on January 1 2014, Brooks was traded to the Maine Red Claws but was recalled to the Celtics again on January 9.

Golden State Warriors

In a three-team trade with Golden State, Boston Celtics, and Miami Heat, MarShon, along with his teammate Jordan Crawford, was sent to his Golden State Warriors.

That same year in February, MarSchon was traded to Santa Cruz Warriors. However, he was again recalled the next day.

Los Angeles Lakers

In February 2014, Brooks was again traded along with Kent Bazemore from the Golden State Warriors to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Steve Blake

In July 2014, Brooks participated in the 2014 NBA Summer League from the Sacramento Kings.

Emporio Armani Milano

Brooks signed a one-year deal with the Emporio Milano of the Italian League on August 8, 2014.

In 40 league games with the Emporio Milano, he scored an average of 13.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.

Jiangsu Dragons

MarShon Brooks debuted on the Chinese Basketball Association(CBA) in August 2015 by signing with the Jiangsu Dragons.

Memphis Grizzlies

In 2018, the Memphis Grizzlies announced that they signed Brooks to a 10-day contract. 

However, on January 3 2019, he was traded to Chicago Bulls. But the Bulls waived him without playing a single match in the franchise.
