Matt Hasselbeck is a former professional football quarterback who played 18 seasons, primarily with the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL. His wife, Sarah Egnaczyk, played field hockey at Boston College.

Matt is the son of Don Hasselbeck, a tight-end football player who passed away at 70 after going into cardiac arrest at his home on April 14, 2025.

He played for the Boston College Eagles football team and finished his college career as the starting quarterback.

On March 2, 2001, the Packers traded him to the Seattle Seahawks, where he was reunited with the former head coach, Mike Holmgren.

He led Seattle to its first NFC West title since conference realignment in 2002 and won the 2004 NFL Quarterback Challenge.

Matt won the Seahawks’ Steve Largent Award during the final week of the 2009 season and joined the Tennessee Titans on July 29, 2011.

He played for the Indianapolis Colts before announcing his retirement from professional football on March 9, 2016, and became an ESPN analyst.

Matt Hasselbeck Met His Wife, Sarah Egnaczyk, At 17

Matthew and Sarah Hasselbeck’s love story began during their college years at Boston College, where they bonded over their shared passion for athletics.

The couple reportedly married before Matt’s rise to fame as an NFL quarterback, building a strong foundation for their lifelong partnership.

At Boston College, Matt was the star quarterback for the Eagles, while Sarah made her mark as a standout goalie for the women’s hockey team. Her exceptional skills earned her All-American honors.

Moreover, she was inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.

Her hockey career extended beyond college. She represented the United States on multiple national teams, including the U.S. Junior National Team, the U.S. Olympic Festival, and the U.S. Senior National Team.

Sarah Egnaczyk is the daughter of Gregory Egnaczyk, a medical professional and a certified doctor. Her mother is a homemaker.

Matt copied Sarah’s class schedule to ensure they would meet, and even after more than 32 years together, the Hasselbecks remain a tight-knit family.

They raise their three kids while balancing the demands of sports, careers, and parenthood. Their enduring relationship is a testament to love, teamwork, and shared ambition.

Nonetheless, lightning has struck the married couple.

Matthew and Sarah have committed to continuing incredible charity work.

It’s just hard not to do something. Whether it’s (trafficking) or the orphan problem around the world. There’s 139 million orphans around the world. That’s way too many. There’s actually human trafficking. It’s not something that’s fun to talk about. But how can you not do something? And what’s awesome to see is that we’re making progress. I mean, the big thing is that people just don’t know. That was a big thing for me. I just didn’t know.
