Michael Oher ‘Adoptive’ Parents Net Worth: Earnings From The Blind Side

This article was last updated by on

The ‘adoptive’ parents of Michael Oher, Sean, and Leigh Ann have a cumulative net worth of more than $75 million.

However, the business couple is in controversy after Michael sued them, claiming he unknowingly signed a contract that signed away the rights to his life story.

Oher, the subject of the book and movie “The Blind Side,” claims that the couple who took him in as a teenager tricked him into thinking they were adopting him and instead put him in a conservatorship.

Moreover, the ex-NFL star wants the agreement terminated and compensation based on the millions earned off his name and story.

Michael Jerome Oher is a former American football offensive tackle who played in the NFL, primarily with Baltimore Ravens, for eight seasons.

The former NFL star made it into the 2009 NFL draft and won Super Bowl XLVII as the Raven’s starting right tackle.

Moreover, Oher has named himself First-team All-SEC two consecutive times during his college career.

The 37-year-old is currently enjoying his retired life in Nashville, Tennessee, with his beautiful wife, Tiffany Roy, and four children.

Who Are Sean Tuohy And Leigh Ann?

Sean Albro Tuohy is an American sports commentator and restaurateur who played college basketball at the University of Mississippi in the 1990s.

The Irish descendant is the son of Mida and Edward Tuohy, a basketball coach at the Isidore Newman School in New Orleans.

The wife of Sean, Leigh Anne, is a businesswoman and interior designer. The former cheerleader at the University of Mississippi, Anne met her future husband before graduating from college.

The couple tied the knot in 1982 and has three children, including one adopted son Michael Oher.

Moreover, the other son Sean Jr. played guard for the Loyola Greyhounds. Their daughter, Collins, was a state champion as a pole vaulter and cheerleader at the University of Mississippi.

Sean And Leigh Ann’s Net Worth

Prior to selling the majority in six different transactions, Tuohy and his wife controlled 115 fast food franchises, including those of Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut, and Long John Silver’s. Currently, they only possess 11.

The adoptive parents of Michael Oher have a whooping net worth of millions. Leigh Anne has a net worth of about $50 million, whereas her husband Sean has assets worth more than $25 million.

The pair have recently lived an extremely opulent lifestyle, taking numerous luxurious vacations and accumulating a sizable real estate portfolio.

Earnings From The Blind Side

The best-selling book “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game” from 2006 included Leigh Anne and her husband Sean Tuohy as its subjects. Ultimately, the book was turned into the 2009 film “The Blind Side.”

The movie became a blockbuster, reportedly grossing more than $300 million at the box office on a budget of $30 million and tens of millions of dollars more in home video sales.

Moreover, it also received critical acclaim, earning two Academy Awards nominations, including Best Picture, in 2010.

The Tuohy family reached an agreement wherein Sean Sr., Collins, and both parents received $225,000 in addition to 2.5% of the “defined net proceeds” from the movie’s box office, DVD sales, and streaming earnings.

One could assume that there were at least $150 million in net proceeds based on typical film profit break-outs.

If so, the four Tuohys would have each gotten $225,000 + $3.75 million in royalties throughout the course of the film’s release, excluding sales of the DVD and streaming services.

Moreover, Leigh Anne, in her 2010 book ‘In a Heartbreak’ claimed they split the money ‘five ways.’ However, Michael’s petition claimed that he did not earn anything from the movie.
