After graduating, Brant enrolled at the prestigious University of Maryland in 1973 and majored in Journalism. He successfully graduated a few years later. 

Back in his college days, he was fond of football and had a short-lived football career. He was part of the college Football team, where he served as the defensive captain and an outstanding linebacker for the Terrapins.
