Starring the signature actress Milla Jovovich (Alice) and Michelle Rodriguez as leaders of an elite military team of Umbrella Corporation has an impossible mission in their hands.

A mission to break into “the hive,” an underground genetics laboratory operated by the corporation. 

However, a deadly virus has been released, killing and turning all the lab personnel and animals into malicious flesh-eating monsters at the genetic research facility.

As a result, the elite team has about three hours to shut down the facility and save the Earth before the virus overruns the facility.

Directed by Scot Waugh, the video game movie is an action thriller blockbuster movie released in early 2014. In the film Tobey Marshall, a mechanic/underground street racer, gets framed by his rival (Dino) for a crime, sending him to prison for two years. 

After completing his sentence, Tobey plans to take revenge on Dino upon release. A plan to beat Dino in a high-stakes illegal street race. However, the goal is only possible if he can evade through an army of bounty hunters and police, whose after him. 

The video game movie, with a budget of $66 million, boxed the office for $203.3 million. 

6. Warcraft

WOW, or World of Warcraft, is one of the biggest/most popular MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game).

Moreover, the video game happened to be soo popular that the in-game items were limitedly produced in the real world by the game company (Blizzard Entertainment) and were sold to the fans.

Looking at what the fans wanted and wished for the most, director Duncan Jones mid-2016 released the video game movie ‘Warcraft.’

The action fantasy video game movie starts with a desperate scuffle between the orcs and humans. The orcs’ shaman (Gul’dan) desperately tries to escape from their dying world into the human realm (Azeroth).

As a result, the shaman uses his dark magic to open a portal between two worlds. With the help of Blackhand (the most potent of the orc clan) and the orc clan (Horde), they devise a plan to invade and conquer the human realm. 

However, to protect Azeroth from the atrocious invaders, King Llane, the mighty warrior Anduin Lothar, and the most powerful wizard Medivh along with their army, face the Horde in a ferocious battle. 

As the battle between these two races brews, each side starts to question if this war is essential.

5. Tomb Raider

Directed by Simon West, the action-adventure film is based on the most popular video game ‘Tomb Raider.’ The fan favorite among the top video game movies was released in 2001.

In the movie, Cal Lynch (the protagonist) discovers he is a legendary assassin descendant. 

However, with the help of groundbreaking technology, Cal unlocks his ancestral genetic memories from his DNA and travels back to 15th century Spain.

There he experiences the memory of his distant forefather (a member of the Assassins), who has been fighting against the Templars Order to protect the people’s free will. 

Therefore, Cal becomes enlightened by the assassins’ past ancestral memories, knowledge, skill, and will. And he uses the same power to fight against the oppressive organization ruling the present. 

It was budgeted for $125 million and boxed the office for $240.7 million. 

3. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

I believe you have heard of the legendary game series of the ‘Prince of Persia.’ Moreover, it is the one game that every gamer knows about. Probably the first game for most gamers out there.

The global fanbase just wanted one more thing. Yes! a movie. A movie about the game. In mid-2010, when director Mike Newell released the video game movie, this dream was made possible.

In the movie Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal), the Prince of the Persian kingdom is framed as the murderer of his father (King Sharaman) by his uncle.

As a result, the innocent Prince teams up with Princess Tamina to expose his evil uncle and stop him from getting his hands on the dagger that controls the time. 

With a $150-200  million budget, the film hit the box office with a gross of $336.4 million.

2. Sonic the Hedgehog

If not the movie, we’ve heard of the legendary Sonic game. The video game is developed and owned by Sega Corporation (a Japanese multinational video game developer and publisher).

Directed by Jeff Fowler, the action-adventure comedy movie was released in mid-2020. The film features Sonic (an extraterrestrial hedgehog) who finds his way to Earth through the portal created from his stack of golden rings.

However, he encounters an evil scientist (Starring Jim Carrey) who intends to use Sonic’s powers for his selfish desires.

The fan-favorite movie with an $85-90 million budget earned a gross of $306.8 million. Moreover, video game is second on the top video game movies list.

1. Detective Pikachu

Because Ryan Reynolds was voicing our favorite yellow fuzz ball Pikachu, this had to be the best video game movie.
