Jeff Green is a professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association for the Denver Nuggets.

The athlete played three seasons of college basketball for the Georgetown Hoyas before being drafted 5th overall by the NBA’s Boston Celtics in the 2007 NBA draft.

During his NBA career, Green became a bit of a journeyman. Only eight players in NBA history have played for more than ten teams, and he is one of only two players in league history to score more than 12,000 points.

He’s also a strong leader, a seasoned locker-room presence, and a player who can fit into any lineup or situation and contribute right away.

Green’s NBA legacy has already been established, with over 12,000 points and 2,000 playoff minutes under his belt.

Green is the NBA’s ageless wonder, a player whose mental dexterity and physical talent have allowed him to continue contributing at a high level despite his age.

Green’s winding road to the NBA finals is one of the most unusual in the league’s history. And he isn’t finished yet.

Jeff Green: Early Life & Family

Jeffrey Green Sr. and Felicia Akingube gave birth to their son Jeffrey Lynn Green in Cheverly, Maryland, on August 28, 1986.

Green began playing basketball at a young age, thanks to his father’s encouragement and tenacity, and was quite good at it. Also, his older brother was an All-League Guard in high school.

When Green was not with his mother and stepfather, he and his father often played the game together.

Jeff Green had already made a name for himself by the time he started high school. He went to Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, where he participated in several prestigious college programs.

Green won the state basketball championship with his high school in 2004 before accepting a scholarship to Georgetown University in his senior year.

College Career

Coach Craig Esherick recruited Green to Georgetown University in 2003. Before Green arrived on campus, Esherick was fired and replaced by John Thompson III.

Green and center Roy Hibbert, two of Esherick’s top recruits, were key components of Thompson’s future success.

Jeff was named Big East Player of the Year in 2007. He and Hibbert were named to the All-Big East First Team by a unanimous vote.

He was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2007 Big East Tournament after a 30-point performance in the semifinal against Notre Dame and a 21-point performance in the championship against Pittsburgh, as the Hoyas won their 1st Big East title since 1989.

Professional Career

Green is one of only 18 players in NBA history to have appeared for at least ten different teams. He’s now playing in the playoffs for the Nuggets, one of his seven postseason teams.

Jeff has carved out a niche for himself on one of the most loaded teams in NBA history, averaging 11 points and 3.9 rebounds per game with the occasional highlight-reel dunk.

On the other hand, Green has had an unusual career path, even in a league where players are moving around more than ever.

Green has been productive but has not been rewarded with long-term contracts: since the 2014-15 season, he has joined seven of his ten teams.

His last five contracts, with the Brooklyn Nets, Houston Rockets, Utah Jazz, Washington Wizards, and Cleveland Cavaliers, were all for one year or less, at the bare minimum. A 10-day contract with the Rockets was one of them.

Green has consistently scored double digits and has outperformed expectations for someone earning his salary.

He had 19 points and 8 rebounds in Game 7 of Cleveland’s 2018 Eastern Conference finals against the Boston Celtics, helping the Cavaliers proceed to the championship round.

Jeff Green: Age, Height & Weight

Even in a field where younger professionals are typically preferred, Jeff Green proves that age is just a number. He was born on August 28, 1986, making him 37 years old.

The Brooklyn Nets forward, despite being an older NBA player, shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Jeff Green stands at 6 feet 8 inches and weighs 107 kilograms. In the same way, he has black hair and dark brown eyes.

Jeff can play small ball because he is athletic, shoots well, and can finish off the dribble if defenders get too close. Green’s style of play is precisely what the Nuggets’ bench required.

Heart Surgery

Green was diagnosed with an aortic root aneurysm during a routine preseason physical with the Boston Celtics team.

As a result of the diagnosis, he failed his physical, voiding his one-year contract with the team, and didn’t play in the 2011-12 season.

He was a picture of health, only 37 years old and with potential career earnings of $100 million. The news came as a shock, but Green’s preparation, as usual, calmed him down.

Green chose surgery and entrusted his heart to the hands of one of the world’s best cardiac surgeons.

Jeff would not realize how close he had come to losing his career and his life. All of this occurred on what he now refers to as his “second birthday,” the day he was given a second chance — and a new perspective.

Green used his downtime to recover from surgery and finish his coursework at Georgetown, earning a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in theology in May 2012.

Off the Court

Off the court, Green has been a constant source of inspiration and light for those facing similar challenges and obstacles as he did with heart problems.

Even though his surgery was ten years ago, he continues to support and stand in solidarity with those fighting, as evidenced by his work with the non-profit organization “Harboring Hearts.”

The organization helps and supports patients who have had heart surgery or transplants.

Green has done work for the American Heart Association and the New York-based non-profit Harboring Hearts, including Zoom calls and Valentine’s Day messages to people who need encouragement.

Green’s legacy as a symbol of hope and courage will last far beyond his playing days. Green is living proof that the gift of health and life outweighs the game of basketball.

Wife

After dating for a while, Jeff Green exchanged vows with his wife, Stephanie Hurtado.

On September 17, 1990, Stephanie Hurtado was born in Miami, Florida, and graduated from Florida International University in 2015. The couple met in a Miami club through mutual friends.

According to reports, Jeff and Stephanie made quite an impression on each other that night, and when they parted ways, they exchanged phone numbers.

Before meeting again, the two began a three-month phone and text message relationship. Both parties had constantly been involved with each other by this point, igniting a love story that ended with them starting a family.

Green took his significant other on a trip to Greece in the summer of 2016 after being together for a while. Green then requested her hand in marriage, which she gladly accepted.

The couple married the following year, on August 9, 2017, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami, after welcoming a daughter named Sofia Jade in February.

Loving Father to Two Daughters

According to reports, Nuggets forward Jeff Green and his wife, Stephanie, have nighttime storytime with their two young daughters, Sofia and Jasmine, every night, even if it means using FaceTime when he’s on the road with the team.

Stephanie wrote “Dream, Little Girl, Dream” as a love letter to their daughters, and it was just published in time for Mother’s Day.

The Green sisters are tucked into bed with a kiss on the forehead from their parents in the book — yes, they’re named Sofia and Jasmine and bear an uncanny resemblance to the author’s daughters.

Instead of a restless night’s sleep, they leap from their beds and embark on a magical journey, imagining themselves as everything from world-class athletes to life-saving doctors.

Sofia, the elder Green sister, prefers ballet to basketball. Jasmine, the younger sibling, aspires to be a doctor after watching Doc McStuffins. She will have to wait a little longer because she is only four years old.

Net Worth

Green has a net worth of $20 million, according to sources. His salary and various endorsements account for the majority of his net worth.

The athlete signed a two-year, $9 million contract with the Denver Nuggets, according to Spotrac, with $9 million guaranteed and a yearly average salary of $4,500,000.

His base salary in 2021-22 will be $4,500,000, with a cap hit of $4,500,000 and a dead cap value of $4,500,000.

Furthermore, he has earned $75,564,856 in the NBA throughout 11 seasons. He signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Jazz for 2019 but was later waived and is now a free agent.

Green previously signed a one-year, $2,393,887 contract with the Washington Wizards in 2018-19, earning $2,393,887 in base salary, $1,512,601 in cap hit, and $1,512,601 in dead cap value. In 2016, he earned $15 million per year.

Green earns millions of dollars each year from several endorsement deals. On his Instagram, he frequently promotes JBL, an audio equipment manufacturer. He also represents Jordan Jumpman and Hyperice as a brand ambassador.

He has a fleet of lavish cars, including the world-famous Mercedes Benz, which is estimated to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and he is also known to be a fan of the Sneakers brand of shoes.

Health Lifestyle & Diet

Green has had his share of setbacks during his NBA career, including an open-heart surgery to repair an aortic root aneurysm in 2012. On the other hand, he isn’t one to make excuses or let obstacles keep him from doing what he enjoys.

Instead, the forward places a premium on making healthy lifestyle choices, which he credits with extending his playing time.

According to GQ, he and his wife emphasize sticking to an extremely healthy yet surprisingly simple diet. He attributes his overall health to the fact that he can still play.

Green eats a filling breakfast after working out in the morning, consisting of eggs or pancakes. He and his wife eat chicken, salmon, and vegetables for simple, healthy lunches and dinners. The majority of their snacks are fruits.

Green must also keep himself hydrated. He makes it a point to drink at least a gallon of water every day, usually before noon. Even though he enjoys Gatorade, he always drinks plenty of water first.
