Jeff Maggert | Early Life, Family, and Education

Jeffrey Allan Maggert was born in Columbia, Missouri, USA, on February 20, 1964. Jeff grew up on a Texas golf course in The Woodlands.

Childhood and his parent’s separation

Talking about Jeff’s family, his parents married when they were 18, in 1960, and 30 years later, in 1990, they got divorced.

Maggert led the Ben Hogan Tour in income that year. He was very angry and upset with both of them when he first heard of the news.

He wanted his parents to be exactly like those he had seen on television. However, Jeff’s thoughts matured in the intervening years.

Not to mention, in those coming years, young Jeff saw his parents happier than ever. He started asking why they didn’t split any sooner.

Education

Jeff, now a professional golfer, studied at McCullough High School. He later studied at Texas A&M University.

It was only reasonable for Jeff to get golf clubs in his hands because he lived near a golf course, culminating in his becoming an All-American member of the university golf team.

Jeff Maggert | Professional Career

After years of training and playing, in 1986, Jeff became a professional golf player. He first played on the Web.com Tour, which is now the Ben Hogan Tour.

Similarly, in 1990, after winning two tournaments, the Ben Hogan Knoxville Open and the Ben Hogan Buffalo Open, he was named the Player of the Year on the Tour.

He joined the PGA Tour the following year and has since been a regular member of the highest professional golf tour for men in the USA.

Early Years in Golf

Since childhood, Jeff was good at Golf and enjoyed it, but he did not demonstrate any unique enthusiasm. His competence exuded and nothing more.

Because of it, he did not practice much, and indeed, it was an uneventful career. In 1991, he joined the Tour.

He played in 202 events over those 7 1/2 years, won one of them, and a dozen others finished second. Maggert was the guy Check-cashing touring pro, the poster boy for the anonymous, Courteous, but dour.

Achievements of Jeff Maggert

Jeff’s first victory on the Tour came in 1993 when at the WGC-Andersen Consulting Match Play Championship.

He was the best at the Walt Disney World/Oldsmobile Classic, which only improved his net worth, and he had to wait six years to win his second title.

His third win came at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, where he was three strokes better than Tom Pernice, Jr., raising his wealth even more.

Jeff has 15-second places on the PGA Tour and won three tournaments, which have added to his income. He joined the PGA Tour Champions in recent years, formerly known as the Senior PGA Tour.

Similarly, Maggert won four tournaments, including two major championships, Tradition Regions and the U.S. Senior Open, both in 2015, which increased his wealth significantly.

In 2015, at the Shaw Charity Classic and Dick’s Sporting Goods Open, he won the trophy.

Jeff also won tournaments in Asia and Australia, including the 1989 Malaysian Open and Vines Classic, Australia, apart from playing in the USA.

Jeff was a U.S. National Team member, winning the 1994 Presidents Cup and the 1999 Ryder Cup.

Maggert is not a man who reads a lot. He doesn’t have a university degree, but  He’s capable of being profound, though. He’s very intellectual, Looking introspectively and acting like a man who has spent a lot of time alone.

Grand champion when it comes to albatrosses

Maggert has two of the 18 albatrosses at the major competitions, gathering one at the 1994 Masters with a colossal 222-yard 3-iron hole-out at the par-5 13th and another during the 2001 British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes.

He has never bagged a major in his career, but as per sources, he holds 11% of the albatrosses notched in major tournament history.

Charles Schwab Cup Championship

Maggert won the season-ending event on the PGA Tour Champions, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, on November 10, 2019.

Maggert won the event in dramatic style by holing out a wedge from the fairway for eagle on the third playoff hole, conquering Retief Goosen.

He was last seen rolling in a birdie putt in the second round of the 2021 Cologuard Classic.

Achievements and Awards

  • Ben Hogan Tour leading money winner (1990)
  • Ben Hogan Tour Player of the Year (1990)

Jeff Maggert | Marriage, Relationships, and Kids

Since 2000, Jeff has been married to Michelle Garrett, and the couple has two children as of now. However, this is not his first marriage.

Before this, he was previously married to Kelli J. Hess, with whom he had two children.

Kelli was his high school sweetheart, but unfortunately, they got divorced.

At the moment, there is not much information when it comes to his former wife and marriage.

Jeff Maggert and Kelli Maggert: Issues

Michelle Austin Maggert, the wife of Jeff Maggert, was hosting a bar at a private party for the catering company she worked for when she met Jeff Maggert.

At the time, Jeff was married to Kelli Maggert, but the couple went to marital therapy because they were having trouble talking to each other. In a simple word, Jeff was looking for a divorce.

One of the most famous tour wives was Kelli Maggert, who was sweet, lively, and energetic. All these were what Jeff Maggert hasn’t been. Everyone thought that they were doing fine.

However, in the long run, Kelli and Jeff’s marriage was far from perfect. When Jeff expressed he wanted a divorce, it stunned Kelli.

Furthermore, it also upset Jeff’s parents and surely, shocked the Tour.

In an interview, Maggert said that,

People used to think that everything in our marriage life was hunky-dory with us.”

For years, he and Kelli went to marriage counseling. Maggert claims it supported him, but the marriage didn’t last long.

He praises Kelli as a 10-year-old Matt, a homemaker, and a mother to her children, a ten year and 8-year-old.

He does not give her any responsibility for the matrimonial loss. In his view, the underlying issue was both very straightforward and complex, as they were not in talking terms.

Jeff Maggert and Kelli Are High School Sweethearts

At 16, Jeff and Kelli Maggert met, married not too much later, and became a classic case of attracting opposites. Jeff was timid and introverted to the outgoing, bubbly personality of Kelli.

Those gaps ultimately became too much to cross for the couple, and by asking for a divorce, Jeff shocked Kelli and their two daughters, Matt and Macy Maggert.

“Yes, I want to spend the rest of my life with you,” said Maggert. He sat in the deserted dining room in front of the hotel Kemper.

He spent 3 and 1/2 hours conversing about his life. The afternoon had turned into dusk, and the night had turned into darkness. He never fidgeted, never even got up, only sipped one Diet Coke at a time.

He said: “The more I  thought about my mom and dad, the more I got to think about my own marriage situation.”

Maggert said. “As A parent, I used to worry more about the kids than anything in the world. Jeff and I both believed that our kids must know about us, and yeah, we just got honest with them.”

He also mentioned,

I had the dream of getting married, of having children, of living ever after happily. When they were young, my parents married. In the same way, my brother. With the flow, I was running. Kelli and I have been dating for a very long time. What you did next was get married.

Jeff’s Relationship with Michelle Austin

The golfer went public with his now-wife and then-girlfriend, Michelle, at the Olympics quite soon after the divorce.

In February, he achieved a victory in the Andersen Consulting Match Play Championship and won $1 million as first prize. Austin and her seven-year-old son, Phillip, were in the gallery.

Since then, the pair have been together and have two twin children together (whose birth he could be present for, thanks to skipping a Ryder Cup).

Michelle Maggert owns and operates a Stella & Dot company (we have no idea what this is) and does charity work for the appropriate athlete.

To her credit, Kelli Maggert, Jeff Maggert’s ex-wife, does not seem to harbor a grudge about the divorce, saying:

This is probably as good as a divorce could be. He’s spending more time with the kids. I now see Jeff more the way other people do, as aloof and uncommunicative. In the long run, I think Michelle and I will talk more than Jeff and I ever did. She’s a communicator.”

Jeff Maggert | Net Worth and Salary

According to credible sources, it has been calculated that Maggert’s net worth is as high as $9 million, a sum gained through his prosperous career as a pro golfer.

To bring on about his career earnings, Jeff is estimated to have $19,364,566 as of 2024 according to All-Time Money List Leaders – ESPN.
