High School And Collegiate Career
He started his early career on his High School team. In his senior year, Kurt was able to pass for 2,261 yards with about 20 touchdowns.
After his high school was over, he made his commitment to East Carolina University to play collegiate football. Besides that, colleges like the University of South Florida, UCF, and Western Kentucky University were also recruiting him.
In 2014 Benkert appeared in 3 games where he completed eight of his ten passes for 58 yards and also had an interception to his name.
He became East Carolina’s starting quarterback in the year 2015. But, unfortunately, he was injured and suffered from a torn ACL before the start of the season.
Following this tragic event, he transferred to the University of Virginia in May 2016. He was quickly named the starting quarterback in his first year in Virginia.
During his first year in Virginia, he completed 228 of 406 passes for 2,552 yards. In addition to that, he had 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Benkert broke the school record for passing yards in a game with a whopping 455 yards in his final year of college.

Professional Career
After his college success, Benkert signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted agent on the 1st of May, 2018. This embarked on the start of his professional career. As said before, he is now in the game.
Later that year, he was waived and was signed to the practice squad of the Falcons. Following this event, he signed a futures contract with Falcons on the 31st of December, 2018.
Unfortunately, his injury interfered with his career again. Benkert was placed on the injured reserve after he suffered from a toe injury in the preseason on August 6, 2019.
However, he was signed back to the practice squad in September of 2020.
