Sofia Huerta Family Life

Sofia Huerta was born and raised in a Mexican-American household with two older siblings.

The US Women’s Team right back, Sofia Huerta’s father, Mauricio, was born and raised in Puebla, Mexico, and her mother, Jody, belonged to Wisconsin.

The two met when Mauricio was selected as only one of four students for an engineering program at the University of Wisconsin. Mauricio returned after a year to Mexico but kept in touch with Jody.

After completing her education in Wisconsin, Jody took a one-way ticket to Mexico, and since then the two have been together for 30 years.

Previously, in an interview with Our Esquina, Sofia and her dad talked about the racism faced by the Latino community. Even having a white-collar job didn’t shield Mauricio from being ridiculed for his thick accent.

Mauricio worked harder than his colleagues and earned even more degrees, but the promotion would be handed to others at his office.

In their interview, Mauricio said the sacrifices he and Jody made have been worth it as they have witnessed their daughter succeed at the highest level.
