2014 NBA Draft

The Houston Rockets selected Johnson with the 42nd overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft on June 26, 2014.

After averaging 12.5 points per game in the 2014 NBA Summer League, he signed with the Rockets on July 25, 2014.

During his rookie season, the athlete was assigned to the NBA Development League’s Rio Grande Valley Vipers on multiple occasions.

On July 20, 2015, the Rockets traded Ty Lawson and a 2017 second-round draft pick to the Denver Nuggets for Johnson, Kostas Papanikolaou, Joey Dorsey, Pablo Prigioni, a 2016 first-round draft pick, and cash considerations.

After appearing in six preseason games, Nick was waived by the Nuggets on October 24, 2015.

Nick’s lack of playing time as a rookie irritated Rockets fans, especially during the playoffs when Jason Terry and Pablo Prigioni struggled on defense.

However, the athlete didn’t get enough time on the court during the season or in practice to feel at ease.

Johnson appeared in 34 games for Austin, averaging 10.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.4 turnovers per contest.

Nick Johnson wasn’t feeling well during the season. When watching him, it was clear that he had returned too soon from a knee injury that had kept him out.

Moreover, anyone who has grown accustomed to Johnson’s extreme athleticism could tell he wasn’t quite right.

He shot 46.8% in the restricted area (league average was 62.6 percent) and only had four dunks on the season.

Bayern Munich

Johnson signed a contract with Bayern Munich of the German Basketball Bundesliga until the end of the season on October 29, 2016.

Injury

In 2015, Nick Johnson suffered a calf injury that could have kept him out of the Las Vegas Summer League for the entire season.

“It’s nothing,” he explained, “but I don’t want to turn it into a nagging injury.”

Johnson was supposed to play “nearly exclusively at point guard,” but that didn’t happen.

The athlete said he worked on “everything” this offseason and started right after the regular season ended.

He needed to improve his understanding of the system, strengthen his body, and take a lot of jumpers.

All professional athletes are familiar with playing through injury, but playing through injury while on the NBA roster is vastly different from playing through injury while trying to make the NBA roster.

Johnson tried it in the season, and it didn’t work out, but it shows he’s a fighter who is willing to go to any length to keep his NBA dream alive.

Nick Johnson: Position

Nick Johnson has spent his entire career as a 6-foot-3 shooting guard with a poor outside jumper, and at the age of 23, he moved to the lead guard position.

Johnson graduated from the University of Arizona as a decorated player, a rim-attacking threat, and a tenacious defender. He’s still young and could improve his point guard skills.

Johnson was in a difficult position. Despite some flashes of brilliance, his size keeps him stuck between playing point guard and shooting guard, and his skill set is currently more skewed toward a shooting guard than a point guard.

Nick Johnson: Basketball Skills

While at Arizona, Johnson demonstrated some of the skills that made him one of the most dangerous players in college basketball.

Johnson had his ups and downs throughout the journey, averaging nearly four turnovers per game to go along with his 7.4 assists.

Johnson is still an enthralling guard who can change the tone of a game in an instant.

His game is better suited to the NBA style because he’s a slasher who can attack the rim, but an NBA deal at the start of the season is unlikely.

He’s improved his overall jump shot, increased the consistency of his jump shot off the dribble, and learned how to handle the ball in the pick-and-roll.

Comes From Basketball Family

Johnson’s father, Joey, and uncle, Dennis, are both former NBA players, a three-time NBA champion, and member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Joey “Jumpin” helped the College of Southern Idaho win the NJCAA national championship in 1987. Johnson was an all-L.A. City pick at Banning two years ago.

Even though Johnson averaged 16 points per game, Banning’s most highly regarded player was Arizona-bound guard Eric Cooper.

Johnson, the younger brother of NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Johnson, once held the world record for dunking on the highest basket at 11-foot-7 with a reported 52-inch vertical jump.

He made his most famous leap at a saloon in Moscow, Idaho. At 11-foot-4, he leaped from a halt and bent a nail mounted on the wall in honor of former University of Idaho star Gus Johnson.

Nick Johnson: Strength

Nick Johnson is a decent athlete with a solid build, reasonable body control, and sufficient length. He has a solid leaping ability off of two feet.

He’s a smart basketball player with textbook fundamentals in almost every facet of his game.

Nick has a compact jump shot that he can hit consistently from up to 25 feet away.

He has a strong open-court game and explodes and elevates beautifully into his shots. Nick can finish strong above the rim and is a gliding type leaper who appears to float in the air.

He does a good job of separating the ball from defenders on his slashes by using his shoulders and hips. Pull-up jumpers are one of his favorite things to do.

Nick possesses the tools to play spot minutes at point guard at the next level and is a capable wing passer. He isn’t afraid to make contact, and he quickly gets to the foul line.

Nick Johnson: Wife

Nick Johnson is in a relationship with Riley Singleton. She also played basketball in college. However, it is not confirmed if they are married or not.

The pair shares a beautiful daughter who is about seven months old. Her name is Arlo Stone Johnson.

Nick often posts pictures with his wife and daughter on his Instagram. He never misses a chance to depict his love towards his small family through social media.

Nick Johnson: Net Worth

Nick Johnson’s net worth is estimated to be around $2 million. The primary source of his income is from his professional career as a basketball player.

There is no information available on his endorsements and sponsorships. However, as an athlete, he might have endorsed some famous brands.

Basketball players can earn anywhere from $20,000 to millions of dollars per year, depending on various factors.

Although the average NBA player earns nearly $2 million per year, a small group of players with D-league crossover contracts earns as little as $50,000.

The league’s top players earn nearly $35 million per year. Outside of the National Basketball Association, minor league teams can earn less than $20,000 per year.
