Robert Farah | Early Life & Family

Farah (fully named Robert Charbel Farah Maksoud) was born on 20 January 1987, under the Aquarius sun sign. Likewise, Farah is a Canadian-born Columbian whose parents are of Lebanese descent.

His mother is Eva Moksoud, a teacher at the French Liceo Paul Valery de Cali. Of course, Robert takes her maiden name, Moksoud.

As for his father, Patrick Farah, he used to be a tennis player himself. Today, he is a tennis instructor and founder of an academy in Cali.

Altogether, Robert comes from a family that holds a distinguished place in the history of Lebanese tennis. As a matter of fact, Robert is named after his grandfather, Robert Farah. 

Robert Farah was the 1950s tennis champion back in his grandfather’s days. Similarly, he also has a great-aunt Nena Farah, a tennis champion in Lebanon in the 1930s.

Also, as a short background story, Robert’s father, Patrick, met his mother, Eva, back in the 1980s when he was a tennis instructor at Mont La Salle College.

Back then, his mother was the captain of the Lebanese national volleyball team.

Today, Robert has an elder sister named Romy Farah, and that was when they later moved to Canada. Following it, Robert was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Robert gained a chance to learn tennis at the early age of three. As a young boy, Farah enrolled in the French Lycee in Cali; however, he later transferred to a private school.

Robert Farah | Professional Career

Farah commenced his professional tennis journey in 2010. Following it, he first dueled with Juan Sebastián Cabal the next year.

Together, they defeated Pakistani Aisam Qureshi and Indian Rohan Bopanna.

After years, Farah was in his first Grand Slam Final at Wimbledon, partnering with Anna-Lena Grönefeld. 

Likewise, he had his first men’s double Grand Slam semi-final alongside Juan at the French Open.

Well, 2018 was mostly filled with his suspension in games, and back in 2019, he and Cabal won their first-ever grand slam men’s doubles title at Wimbledon.

Therewith, they stood in the world’s number one after defeating Frenchmen Nicolas Mahut and Édouard Roger-Vasselin.

In the latter years, Farah again faced a suspension which kept him away from the 2020 Australian Open.

The 2018 suspension 

In July 2018, Farah announced a three-month suspension from the games and would pay an acceptable charge of £3,800. Back then, he had used his Twitter account as he promoted a gambling website.

In simple words, he had encouraged people to gamble in tennis. Therefore, Tennis Integrity had contacted him for the cause, and Farah quickly deleted his tweet. 

Additionally, it was taken that he would only serve the suspension if he further breached the rules of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program.

Overall, Farah also made an apology for his mistake and vowed not to repeat the error.

The 2019 Suspension

In October 2019, Robert Farah tested positive for the anabolic steroid Boldenone and then was suspended from games starting on January 14, 2020.

To elaborate, Farah first gave his urine sample as part of an Out-of-Competition testing mission on 17 October 2019.

When the sample was tested in World Anti-Doping Agency (“WADA”) accredited laboratory in Montreal, Canada, they found Boldenone.

According to category S1 of the 2019 WADA Prohibited List, positive testing of such substances prohibits tennis players in the games.

On January 11, 2020, they charged Farah with an Anti-Doping Rule Violation under Article 2.1 of the Programme.

Anyways, Farah stated that his positive test for the substance was because of the contaminated meat he had, which contained the use of Boldenone by Colombian farmers to boost growth in cows.

Furthermore, he had the right to contend why he should not be temporarily prevented from competing. However, he chose not to exercise that right.
