Bishop Kearney High School 

Carter played for Bishop Kearney High School as a high school player and student. As a junior, he averaged 15.1 points per game.

Carter improved in his last year with the school. So, he averaged 19.1 points per game, 1.6 assists per game, and 3.0 rebounds.

After high school graduation, he received recruiting offers from the University of Daytona and the University of Washington. Nahziah Carter committed to playing basketball at Dayton for the University of Dayton Arena.

However, a change in management that saw head coach Archie Miller leaving for Indiana changed Carter’s mind.

At that time, Carter had received lucrative offers from colleges such as Georgetown University and Boston College. These offers were very appealing at that time.

Nike EYBL

In the summer of 2017, Nahziah Carter played on the Nike EYBL, Nike Elite Youth Basketball League.

The tournament features players under 18 years. Carter played for the New York City Rocks.

In the tournament, Carter averaged 12.7 points per game. Moreover, he averaged 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.

Due to his impressive performance, the New York City Rocks went on to win 10 games in a row. This sealed their spot at the Peach Jam in July.

Moreover, coach Mike Hopkins expressed that Nahziah can be a big name and hasn’t yet unlocked his full capacity. The exact quote by Mike Hopkins goes like this. 

“He plays way above the rim, and he’s just scratching the surface of what his potential could be. Being from New York, I’ve been following him for a while and have seen him just consistently improve and develop.

To this, he then added,

“He’s excited to be here, fits the Husky DNA perfectly, has a great mindset, and we’re excited to have him join our program.”

Nahziah Carter played as a shooting guard in 34 games as a freshman. Likewise, he averaged 5.1 points per game and 1.7 rebounds per game in his freshman season.

Nahziah Carter improved and matured in many areas moving forward to the next season. In his sophomore year, Carter played 36 games as a reserve.

Aiming for the Hoops

Carter led the returning scorer chart in his junior year, which became his final year with the Huskies. In the entirety of the 2019-20 season, Carter played 32 times.

However, this time, the main difference was that he had cemented his name to the start and was not a reserve.

In the previous two seasons, Carter only started two games. However, in 2019-20, Carter started in 31 out of 32 games.

Carter greatly repaid the faith placed by his coaches in him. That season Carter averaged 12.2 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game.

In Huskies’ match against 16th ranked Baylor, Carter scored a career-high 23 points and seven rebounds.

Due to his impressive performance, he led his team to the new 2019-20 season’s opening victory.

Carter scored another double in another game against Tennessee as he netted 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. However, despite Carter’s effort, Huskies went on to lose 75-62.

Carter became the Huskies’ third-leading scorer and rebounder during his junior year. 

Suspension

Unfortunately, things didn’t go too well for Carter in 2020. On October 15, 2020, Carter received suspension as sexual allegations rose against him.

As a result, Carter left Washington to pursue his professional career. He announced his departure via Twitter.

Sexual Assault Allegations

Before Carter departed from Washington, he was accused of sexual assault. The accusation was on two separate counts.

According to the accusation, Carter forced two women to perform oral sex on him.

The first student came with the accusation against Carter on January 14, 2020. The student met UW’s Title IX Investigation Office, which oversees gender-based discrimination and sexual harassment cases.

Likewise, the investigation began on Carter and the case. The college issued a no-contact order which meant that students couldn’t have direct or indirect contact.

On July 29, a hearing determined that Carter was guilty of violating the Student Conduct Code on Sexual Assault. 

On March 17, a second student came forward with a complaint against Carter. This sparked another investigation. After this, another no-contact order was issued.

Carter was once again found guilty of breaking the Student Conduct Code regarding sexual assault on November 13.

Suspension From Basketball Team

As a result of being guilty, Carter received a suspension from all basketball-related activities on October 15.

After the ban, the player appealed for the decision to be reversed. However, his appeal was denied.

The suspension included a three-quarter ban from the university, which stretched from summer 2021 to Winter 2023. Likewise, the college prepared for Carter’s permanent dismissal.

According to ESPN, Melbourne United, an Australian Basketball team, is interested in signing Carter.
